Welcome from the Department Head
Howdy, and welcome to our new Nuclear Engineering website! You have just opened a window to one of the most exciting engineering programs in the nation today. Please explore and see what we have to offer.
"The Texas A&M Nuclear Engineering Department is currently the largest in the USA."
The Texas A&M Nuclear Engineering Department is currently the largest in the USA, with 291 undergraduate and 111 graduate students. But even more importantly, our academic program educates and prepares nuclear professionals for careers that span the full gamut of this extraordinary technical discipline. As the United States seeks a national goal of "energy independence," nuclear power stands at the edge of a "renaissance" and career prospects look outstanding for our graduates. Besides nuclear engineering, we have a nationally unique program in nuclear nonproliferation studies that addresses one of the most serious national security challenges in the post-9/11 global environment. We also have undergraduate and graduate level degrees in radiological health engineering/health physics, and technical areas of concentration in nuclear power technology and nuclear materials/fuel cycles.
Accordingly, the Texas A&M Nuclear Engineering Department faculty has a wide spectrum of expertise and research interest, and we support an impressive list of research facilities. We are currently ranked second nationally in undergraduate and third in graduate studies among public universities. Our students maintain one of the highest cumulative grade point averages on campus, and we boast a very significant number of National Merit Scholars. Yet, with all this, we are a relatively small department in which students have easy access to the faculty. We are committed to maintaining a "family environment."
Feel free to browse our new website to find out more about the department. Here you will find information on the department's academic programs, its facilities, institutes, and research capabilities, as well as resources for prospective students, current students, former students, faculty/staff, and educators.
