The Department of Nuclear Engineering at Texas A&M University has graduated more nuclear engineers since the early 1960’s than has any other school in the country. As the nation anticipates the emergence of a “Nuclear Renaissance,” our department is positioned to continue in this role because we are now the largest nuclear engineering department in the country. However, more important than just the number of graduates is the quality of those graduates. Competition for the best students is tougher than ever! As we continue our tradition of producing the high-quality nuclear engineers that industry needs, a key factor is the ability to attract the most academically capable students.
To further strengthen the excellence of our student body, and thus the excellence of the future workforce, we conduct the Ronald C. Stinson Scholars Program*. This program enables us to attract and to retain outstanding young people through a number of $10,000 scholarships, each payable over the course of eight semesters.
Stinson Scholars are selected on the basis of academic ability, demonstrated academic performance, and leadership potential. Students majoring in Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Health Engineering are eligible. However, we currently have too few scholarships for the number of qualified students. Thus, we are looking for new corporate and private sponsors.
The Ronald C. Stinson Scholars Program promotes continued excellence in nuclear engineering at Texas A&M. Both donors and recipients make a lasting impact on the profession and industry, and carry forward the important tradition of excellence in nuclear engineering.
*The program proudly bears the name of Ronald C. Stinson, Class of 1953, whose distinguished career has set a standard of excellence that current and future nuclear engineering graduates strive to match. As a founder of two highly respected consulting firms, advisor to industry executives and government officials, and president of the American Nuclear Society, Stinson has had a tremendous impact on this field. The students who become Stinson Scholars are selected and groomed to carry on this tradition.
